21 August, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Over 40 national observers have been accredited with district election commissions in the Vitebsk region, Leonid Dorofeyenko, Deputy Head of the Organisational and Personnel Work Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, informed a BELTA correspondent today.
A significant portion of the observers are representatives nominated by political parties and public organisations. According to Leonid Dorofeyenko, the number of national observers will significantly increase by election day, September 23, mainly due to those who will be accredited with precinct election commissions. Long-term international observers from the CIS have already familiarised themselves with the progress of the election campaign in the Vitebsk region.
According to the department, on August 22, all 14 district election commissions for the election of deputies to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus of the fifth convocation operating in the region will register candidates for deputies and issue them with certificates. From this moment, the most active phase of the election campaign will commence.
As previously reported, in the Vitebsk region, district commissions received application packages for registration as candidates for deputies from 61 citizens, 34 of whom are nominated by political parties. -0-
