In terms of the number of ID cards and biometric passports issued, the Vitebsk region has entered the top three leaders in the country, following Minsk and the Gomel region. Svetlana Avik, Head of the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, noted:

– To date, our departments have already issued 23,360 ID cards and 17,058 biometric passports. The residents of Pervomaysky District of Vitebsk (a total of about 7.2 thousand passports and cards), Polotsk District, and Orsha District are the most active in obtaining new documents.

If we analyse the situation among small rural regions, Chashniki residents have shown particular interest in obtaining new-style documents. In this district, almost 2,000 people have already become holders of ID cards and biometric passports. Every day, the Citizenship and Migration departments of the Vitebsk region receive dozens of new applications for the issuance of biometric documents.
