Over Br1.2 billion in fines and claims have been recovered from violators of environmental legislation in the Vitebsk region for January-September, the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection informed a BELTA correspondent. In total, over the nine months of the current year, the committee conducted 377 planned and 108 unscheduled inspections of business entities. 77 business entities belonging to the high-risk group, 141 to the medium-risk group, and 159 to the low-risk group were inspected. Based on the results of the inspections, over 4,000 measures were prescribed for business entities to implement. As a result of inspection activities, the committee and its structural divisions brought to justice about 2.9 thousand violators of environmental legislation, including fines imposed on 1.4 thousand officials, 453 legal entities, and 683 citizens. The total amount of fines imposed amounted to Br732 million. Administrative penalties for the reporting period were applied in the field of atmospheric air protection and the ozone layer to 418 violators for the amount of Br57.9 million, in the field of water resources use and protection - to 508 violators for Br208 million, in the field of land and subsoil use and protection - to 260 for Br64.3 million, in the field of flora and forests use and protection - to 357 for Br60.5 million, in the field of waste management - to 596 for Br269 million, for failure to comply with prescriptions - to 141 violators for the amount of Br17.2 million.
