The third meeting of the Joint Board of Customs Services of the Customs Union member states will be held on 15 March in Vitebsk, chaired by the Head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia, Andrey Belyaninov, the BELTA correspondent was informed by the press service of the FCS of the Russian Federation. The event will be attended by the Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus, Alexander Shpilevsky, and the Chairman of the Customs Control Committee of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan, Mazhit Yesenbayev. The Chairman of the Customs Service of Kyrgyzstan, Kubanichbek Kulmatov, has also been invited to the meeting. The board will consider issues related to the application of the customs legislation of the Customs Union and develop directions for cooperation between the customs services of Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan. The parties will discuss measures to simplify customs control for individuals crossing the border of the Customs Union. In particular, this concerns the simplification of formalities for the clearance of passengers and baggage travelling by transit through airports of the Customs Union member states. Passengers will be given the opportunity, subject to minimum requirements – both when purchasing a ticket and when checking in for a flight – to register their baggage as transit baggage, provided it does not contain goods subject to written declaration. Such baggage will be delivered by the carrier directly to the destination airport (not issued at the transit airport). Special attention at the meeting will be paid to the issue of preventing the import of hazardous waste into the territory of the Customs Union that poses a threat to the safety and health of citizens. As customs control is carried out at the border of the Customs Union, the need for coordinated requirements for ensuring radiation safety by customs authorities when moving goods and vehicles across the border, as well as during the customs procedure of goods release, is evident, the press service noted. -0-
