A telephone hooligan was apprehended by law enforcement agencies a few hours after his call to the police reporting a supposed bomb threat at the Vitebsk cold storage plant, as reported to BELTA correspondent by Andrey Semenikhin, Head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
At 6:53 AM today, a man who refused to identify himself called the duty officer of the Internal Affairs Directorate and reported that an explosive device had been planted on the premises of the Vitebsk cold storage plant. Specialists were dispatched to the scene, who evacuated 93 employees and conducted a search of the territory for any explosive devices. Nothing dangerous was found.
Operational-search activities carried out by the Internal Affairs Directorate and the KGB Directorate for the Vitebsk Region led to the identification and apprehension of the caller. He turned out to be a resident of Vitebsk, born in 1976, employed and with no prior convictions. During the investigation, it was established that he attempted to test the responsiveness of the security forces to his call in this manner.
The damage caused by the false alarmist's actions is still being assessed. He has been detained based on Article 108 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Belarus. -0-
