The pace of sowing winter grain crops in the Vitebsk region exceeds last year's rates by more than 1.5 times, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. According to data as of September 6, winter grain crops have been sown in the region on an area of over 70 thousand hectares, or 28% of the plan. These works are most actively organised in the Sharkovshchyna and Beshenkovichi districts, where winter crops already occupy about 40% of the planned areas, and about a third of the areas are sown in the Orsha, Chashniki, and Lepel districts. In addition, throughout the region, over 76% of the areas have been prepared for sowing winter grains and rapeseed. Sowing of winter crops in the region is planned to be completed by September 20. The harvesting of cereal crops continues in the fields. Thus, buckwheat has been harvested on almost 700 hectares, or over 51% of the areas to be harvested. About 1.1 thousand tons have been threshed with an average yield of 15.4 centners per hectare. Millet has been harvested from an area of about 850 hectares (78% of the areas to be harvested), over 1.2 thousand tons have been threshed, with an average yield of 14.4 centners per hectare. About 18.7 thousand tons of flax straw have been procured in the farms with an average grade of 0.99. Forage corn has been harvested from an area of over 21 thousand hectares, which is over 20% of the plan. The gross yield of green mass is almost 700 thousand tons with an average yield of 326.6 centners per hectare. A total of about 840 thousand tons of feed units have been procured, with the provision of feed per conventional head of livestock in the region averaging almost 18 centners of feed units.-0-
