On April 3, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The exhibition "Textiles of Latvia" opened today in Vitebsk, the Vitebsk Art Museum, where it is held, informed a BELTA correspondent.
The exhibition features 44 works of various formats by Latvian artists, many of whom are members of the Association of Latvian Textile Artists: Irena Andreeva, Ekaterina Apale, Elina Veilande-Apine, Antra Augstinoviča, Aija Baumane, Irisa Bluma, Ruta Bogustova, Inga Vasiļjeva, Iveta Vecenane, etc.
A wide range of materials are used in the presented works – linen, wool, cotton, synthetics, paper. The choice of theme and corresponding technical execution were determined by the inner necessity and individual perception of the surrounding world of each artist. However, the characteristic features uniting their works into a cohesive canvas are the high level of execution, virtuoso skill and quality of work, diversity of colour interpretations, plasticity of forms and compositional rhythms, and experimentation with materials and technologies.
The exhibition is organised as part of the international project "European Art Schools" with the aim of popularising Latvian textile art, supported by the Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Vitebsk. It can be viewed until April 24.
Until this time, the personal exhibition "ZOOM II" by Latvian artist and educator Aleksandra Šļahova, which opened today, will also be running.
Aleksandra Šļahova is a participant in many international conferences and the author of over 90 scientific publications, the supervisor of a large number of defended bachelor's and master's theses in pedagogy and art, and three doctoral theses in pedagogy. She is a participant in many art exhibitions, and her works have been exhibited in Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, and Italy.
The exhibition's concept is defined by its very title: to depict surrounding reality or individual objects, whether close-up or distant, revealing the psychological character and philosophy of a specific moment or physical phenomenon. Each artwork expresses the author's attitude, feelings, and perception of what is happening, whether seen in reality or imagined. The watercolors are built on color relationships, bright, saturated hues that gradually blend into each other or, through contrast, emphasize one another, thereby conveying the intended or observed through their depth or texture. The works exhibit either a minimalist palette or an active color combination of all hues, clearly communicating the author's ideas. Simultaneously, the dominance of color purity, contrast, and harmony, which extend from the initial idea to its material realization, is clearly felt.
The Association of Latvian Textile Artists (ALTA) was founded in Riga in April 1994. Its objectives are to consolidate the efforts of Latvian professional textile artists to popularize this art form and to ensure regular exhibition activities in Latvia and abroad. ALTA establishes and maintains connections with similar organizations worldwide and facilitates the exchange of exhibitions and informational materials.-0-
