The city was congratulated on its significant date by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin, and the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentiev.
The packed programme began at the "Yuzefpolye" park. Guests, a delegation from the twin town of Velikoluksky District, Pskov Region, representatives of local authorities, work collectives and public associations, and young people laid flowers at the mass grave and observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War.
Following a colourful procession of work collectives, during which enterprises and organisations showcased their products, the city's main concert venue honoured front-runners, veterans, and labour dynasties.
Addressing the residents of Tolochin, Alexander Subbotin emphasised that the key to the city's future lies in the residents' sincere love for their small homeland, and in their boundless faith in their city, country, and its prosperity.
– The district centre has enormous potential and great prospects. Tolochin is filled with creation and creative search, opening up new opportunities for development and growth, – noted the governor. - Today, its residents are together creating a new page in the chronicle of the region with its unique history and culture. Drawing on the accumulated production and human potential, the district is improving production technologies, bringing order to the land, and developing the social sphere and tourism infrastructure. The products of the region's enterprises are known far beyond our country.
Alexander Subbotin wholeheartedly congratulated the residents of Tolochin on the 590th anniversary of the city and the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus.
It is important to remember and honour our history. Vladimir Terentiev spoke about this.
- It is important and symbolic that the dates of the cities' chronicles and the day of their liberation from the Nazi invaders, their revival from the ruins, are celebrated on the same day in most regions of our country. It is also important that the city's birthday is a wonderful opportunity to express gratitude to its residents, the workers, who make the regions more beautiful with their creative deeds, thanks to whom young people stay in their small homeland, the economy, agriculture, and the social sphere develop. And people live comfortably in such small settlements.
Words of gratitude to the workers of various fields of activity were expressed by the Chairman of the Tolochin District Executive Committee, Oleg Lyndin.
— Today we recall the rich history of our region, we pay tribute to those who withwith their labour, talent and skill, he brings it glory. We have something to be proud of, and this is the merit of the people who make our native land more beautiful, attractive and prosperous," said the head of the district.
A jubilee commemorative sign and the Roll of Honour of the Honourable Citizens of Tolochin District were solemnly unveiled on the central square. The city park has also been transformed – an alley of the Year of Peace and Creation was laid here, and a new children's playground "Fairy Tale Land" was opened.
The renovated dental department of the "Tolochin Central District Hospital" was also a gift to the residents of the region. The premises have been repaired, the equipment has been updated, including the purchase of two new dental units.
From early morning, guests of the region were welcomed with a variety of dishes from the farmsteads of the rural councils. Real monastery bread was tasted on the territory of the Holy Protection Women's Monastery.
The city park hosted demonstration performances by wrestlers, a pirate quest "Island 112", a fire CrossFit event, and performances by the ensembles "Drutichi" and "Suvenir".
The "Meliorator" sports complex and stadium attracted many sports fans – a checkers tournament for veterans and people with disabilities and the 8th round match of the Championship of the Republic of Belarus in football in the second league "Niva" (Tolochin) — "Gazovik" (Vitebsk) were held here.
Volodarskogo Street in the district centre became a location for the exhibition of agricultural machinery.
The work of trade rows, children's attractions, themed areas, photo zones, and the exhibition-fair "Tolochin – City of Craftsmen" continues.
The evening program will be "lit up" by stars of the Belarusian stage, artists and creative groups from the cultural institutions of Dubrovensky and Liozno districts.
