Every year, on the first Sunday of December, Lawyer's Day is celebrated in Belarus. What is the relationship between the Civil Registry Office (ZAGS) and this holiday? It's simple: ZAGS employees must have higher legal education, as all work is based on the knowledge and application of marriage and family legislation.

On the eve of the holiday, we will try to answer the most frequently asked questions that citizens ask us.

After how many days can we get married?

Not earlier than three days and not later than three months from the date of application. However, for a valid reason (e.g., the bride's pregnancy), the period may be shortened.

And what about dates?

We are a small ZAGS, so, as a rule, there is enough space for everyone. You can get married on any day of the week and even on Sundays (if it is a ceremonial registration). However, if you want a specific time (the most popular time for newlyweds is from 14:00 to 16:00), we recommend booking in advance.

And how much does it cost?

For the registration of marriage, a state duty of one basic unit (currently 32 rubles) must be paid. If you are planning a ceremonial registration, you will need to pay an additional 22 rubles and 45 kopecks.

Explanation: Non-ceremonial registration is carried out in the office where citizens are received. Everything takes literally a few minutes. You come as a couple, you are asked for your consent, you put your signatures, and you are given a marriage certificate.

Ceremonial registration involves holding a wedding ceremony in the hall of celebrations with an appropriate script and musical accompaniment.

The ZAGS department registers marriages between foreign citizens, foreign citizens and stateless persons, and stateless persons only if at least one of them has a permanent residence permit in the Republic of Belarus.

How can we get a divorce at the registry office and what is required for this?

The registry office (ZAGS) dissolves a marriage only if you have no common minor children, no property dispute, and both parties consent to the divorce. If these conditions are not met, you should apply to the court for divorce.

To dissolve a marriage at the registry office, both parties must come in person with identity documents, the marriage certificate, fill out an application, and pay the state duty of 4 basic units (currently 128 Belarusian rubles). The registration of the divorce is carried out one month after the application is submitted, in the presence of both spouses.
