The solemn ceremony of reburial of the remains of civilians took place in Lepel district.

On the eve of Victory Day, May 7, 2026, a solemn reburial ceremony for the remains of 358 civilians of Lepel district, victims of the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War, was held near the village of Chernoruchye, Lepel district, at the memorial complex.

The solemn ceremony was attended by the Prosecutor of Vitebsk region, Senior Justice Counsellor Andrey Skurat, representatives of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Lepel District Executive Committee headed by Chairman Mikhail Kiselevich, law enforcement agencies, military units, parties, public organizations, enterprises and institutions of the district, students and other interested parties.

The Chairman of the Lepel District Executive Committee, Mikhail Kiselevich, addressed the participants of the solemn ceremony:

— Today we are present at a ceremony that fills our hearts with heavy grief. We are laying to rest the remains not of soldiers who fell in trenches with weapons in their hands. We are burying victims of the war, ordinary, innocent people…

The Prosecutor of Vitebsk region, Senior Justice Counsellor Andrey Skurat, addressing the attendees, noted that the task of our generation and future generations is to preserve in our hearts and minds the memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War, the crimes committed by the Nazis and their accomplices.

Clergy of various religious denominations were present at the solemn ceremony – this is a sign that the memory of the innocent victims of the Nazi occupiers during the war knows no national or religious boundaries. The memorial service was conducted by the Dean of the Lepel District, Archpriest Sergey Leshkevich.

Farewell to the brutally tortured and killed civilians of Lepel region by the Nazis! With all due honours, as befits the send-off of the unconquered sons and daughters of our Motherland!

The participants of the ceremony observed a minute of silence in memory of all those who died during the Great Patriotic War and laid flowers at the burial site of the remains of innocent victims of the occupiers and their accomplices.
