The turnover from school fairs and sales in the Vitebsk region amounted to over Br9 billion, the trade and services department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. Mass school fairs and sales in the region started in mid-July. In total, during the elapsed period, 335 exhibitions-sales and extended sales of goods for schoolchildren were held in cities, district centers, and Vitebsk. Traditionally, large school fairs with the participation of industrial and trade enterprises of the region took place on August 18 and 25, with a turnover of Br793 million, or 181% compared to the same indicator in 2011. In addition, the sale of school products was carried out on the basis of 1.3 thousand retail outlets, where 31 additional jobs were created for this purpose. Also, over 1 thousand corners for first-graders operated in the region's retail network. Trade markups on school assortment goods in the main basic retail enterprises of the Vitebsk region did not exceed 25% this year. And so that parents could fully purchase the necessary goods for preparing for school, various promotions were held in shops, department stores, and supermarkets, primarily aimed at large families and low-income families. The minimum consumer basket for equipping children of primary school age was Br1-1.1 million, and for older schoolchildren - Br1.2-1.3 million.
