A note for brides: traditional wedding headwear and artefacts of Vitebsk region residents will be showcased at an exhibition in the city on the Dvina, the Vitebsk Regional Centre of Folk Art informed a BELTA correspondent.
The exhibition "Vianok Niavèsty" (Bride's Wreath) will open on October 23. Its core will be traditional wedding headwear of various religious denominations, brought by representatives of district Houses of Crafts. The collections will also feature headbands and wreaths for bridesmaids, caps for the groom and groomsmen, scarves (worn on the shoulders by the groom and his best man, groomsmen), bouquets (worn on the chest by the best man, groomsmen), framed photographs, artefacts of the bride's dowry, wedding ceremony attributes, doll compositions depicting wedding scenes, and much more.
All exhibits date back to the 20th century. Some of them are authentic. Some items have been meticulously recreated based on preserved memories of local elders and ethnographic research data. The best works by the craftspeople will be awarded special diplomas.
During the exhibition, a photo zone will be available for visitors, and a master class on making a wedding wreath, as well as demonstrations of the bride's dressing and headscarf tying rituals, are planned.
The exhibition will be open until November 29.
