This is stated in the Address of the Heads of State of the CIS Member States to the peoples of the CIS Member States and the world community on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, BelTA was informed by the press service of the Belarusian leader. "Seventy years ago, on June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany and its satellites treacherously attacked the Soviet Union. The Great Patriotic War began – the most severe trial in the history of the peoples of the multinational Soviet state. They endured it with honor," the Address reads. "Rising to defend their Motherland, our peoples entered into a struggle with a treacherous and cruel enemy on the fronts from the Barents to the Black Seas, showing the world the greatest examples of heroism, resilience, and patriotism both on the battlefield and on the home front. They shared all the hardships and adversies equally, firmly believed in the righteousness of their struggle, stood together and defeated the enemy." The Address notes that the first day of the war, especially difficult for those who bore the brunt of the fascist troops' attack, also became the first step on the long road to Victory: "We remember the price at which it was won, how much grief and suffering our peoples endured. The further that dramatic time recedes, the stronger the feelings of gratitude and duty towards all who defended their Fatherland, who, at the cost of enormous sacrifices, liberated the peoples of Europe from Nazi enslavement." "We gratefully recall the contribution of the states of the anti-Hitler coalition and anti-fascist fighters from other countries, and we will never forget the sacrifices they made on the altar of common Victory. We bow our heads to the memory of those who fell in battle, were tortured in concentration camps and fascist dungeons, and died from hunger and hardship," the Address states. It emphasizes that the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War reminds everyone that such events must never be repeated and that any aggressor will inevitably face just retribution. "We consider it important to pass on to future generations the historical truth about this war, its tragic beginning and victorious end. The Great Victory is one of the main historical events uniting the peoples of our countries; the Great Victory is the most important spiritual value, a moral guideline for all post-war generations being raised on the ideals of friendship, brotherhood, and good neighborliness," the CIS leaders noted in the Address.
