13 December, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Three diesel fuel tank cars derailed at the "Vitebsk" station, the press secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Marina Fando, told a BELTA correspondent. Tonight, during shunting operations to break up a train at the "Vitebsk" station, three diesel fuel tank cars derailed. The cargo arrived from Novopolotsk for further dispatch to the "Oknitsa" station of the Moldovan Railway. As a result of the derailment, the tank cars did not overturn, and there was no diesel fuel leakage or traffic delay at the station. Currently, a recovery train has been dispatched to put the wagons back on the tracks. After being put back on the tracks, the damaged tank cars will be towed to the wagon depot of the "Vitebsk" station for inspection and repair. No diesel fuel transfer is planned. Fire safety is ensured by the fire brigade of the "Vitebsk" station. According to the preliminary version, the derailment was caused by a malfunction of the tank cars' braking system – a brake shoe fell out. The extent of damage to the railway tracks is being determined. -0-
