8 September, Minsk / Ekaterina Nechaeva - BELTA /. The Central Election Commission of Belarus is actively carrying out preparatory work for the upcoming presidential elections. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Nikolai Lozovik, Secretary of the Central Commission for Elections and Republican Referendums.
"The Central Election Commission is carrying out extensive preparatory work for the upcoming presidential elections. All draft documents that can be prepared at the present time - when the election date has not yet been determined - are under active development," said the CEC representative. According to him, methodological recommendations for territorial and precinct election commissions have already been practically prepared, as well as almost all draft resolutions of the Central Election Commission that need to be adopted to conduct the election campaign.
We remind you that the elections of the President of Belarus, in accordance with the Constitution and electoral legislation, are appointed by the House of Representatives.
According to the current legislation, presidential elections are appointed no later than five months before the end of the term of office of the current head of state, and are held no later than two months. Thus, the current elections must be held no later than February 6, 2011. -0-
