Every year, pupils from Lepel schools gather for a basketball tournament dedicated to the memory of Igor Solovyov, a soldier-internationalist.
The tournament was organised twenty years ago by Alexander Schneiderman, who worked as a physical education teacher.
Last year, the team from Borovskaya Secondary School became the winner, with teams from Zaslonovskaya Secondary School and Secondary School No. 1 taking the runner-up prizes.
Nine teams gathered in the sports hall of the agricultural technical college to compete for first place: these included teams from Secondary Schools No. 1 and No. 3, the Gymnasium named after I.M. Yerashov, Zaslonovskaya, Borovskaya and Stayskaya Secondary Schools, Starolyadnyanskaya Kindergarten – Basic School, Slobodskaya Kindergarten – Secondary School, and Polsvizhskaya Basic School.
Physical education teachers were awarded certificates for their active work in sports and participation in patriotic activities.
This year, the first place in the tournament was taken by the team from Secondary School No. 1, who won the challenge cup for winners. The tournament champions were awarded gold medals, first-degree diplomas, as well as sweet prizes and t-shirts.
The team from Slobodskaya Kindergarten – Secondary School took second place, and the athletes from Stayskaya Secondary School came in third. The runners-up were presented with diplomas and medals: silver and bronze, respectively. The team from Secondary School No. 3, which took fourth place, was awarded the Schneiderman prize "For the Will to Win". All participants received sweet prizes.
