A water skiing tournament in Novopolotsk has brought together athletes from four countries, the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.

Over 50 athletes from Belarus, Latvia, Russia, and Ukraine are participating in the XVI International Tournament in memory of the Honoured Coach of Belarus Nikolai Genov, the founder of the Novopolotsk water skiing school. Among them are renowned masters of the water ski: Maria Belyakova, Ekaterina Kiseleva, Artem Morozov, Irina Turets, Alexander Isaev, Stepan Shpak.

The competitions open today on Lake Lyukhovo. Winners will be determined among men and women in four age groups (under 14, under 17, Open, and 35+) in four water skiing disciplines: slalom, tricks, jump, and overall.

"Over 15 years, the tournament has launched the careers of many athletes. Among them are already established and titled water skiers Nikita Papakul, German Belyakov, Ilya Lobkovich, and Anna Streltsova. In different years, multiple world and European champions and record holders, Honoured Masters of Sport of Belarus Oleg Devyatovsky, Natalia Berdnikova, and Alexey Zhernosek, participated in the event. This is the largest competition of its kind in Belarus. This year, its staging is timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Novopolotsk," the City Executive Committee reported. The tournament concludes on June 10.
