Thousands of 14-year-old schoolchildren have received passports during the nationwide patriotic campaign "We are Citizens of Belarus!", the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the BRSM, Andrei Belyakov, informed a BELTA correspondent, summarising the results of the campaign in 2016.

"Several thousand young people across the country have received passports in a solemn ceremony these days. Over all the years of the campaign, this amounts to several tens of thousands of young people," noted Andrei Belyakov.

The campaign "We are Citizens of Belarus!", aimed at fostering citizenship and patriotism for one's country, has been held since 2004. The interest in it, according to the First Secretary of the BRSM Central Committee, remains consistently high every year, both from the direct participants and from public associations and government bodies. "I am confident that similar campaigns will continue in the future," noted Andrei Belyakov.

The campaign, ideologically inspired by the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, started on March 10 at the Museum of Modern Belarusian Statehood in Minsk. Over these days, solemn events have been held in all regions of the country. The passport of a citizen of the Republic of Belarus was presented to 14-year-old teenagers by heads of legislative and executive authorities, public figures, and other respected individuals.
