On June 5, Polotsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Thousands of pilgrims have arrived in Polotsk today, on the Day of Remembrance of Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk, to venerate her relics, the Polotsk-Glubokoye Diocese informed a BELTA correspondent.
On the Day of Remembrance of Euphrosyne of Polotsk, divine liturgies will be celebrated in the Saint Euphrosyne Church and the Cross-Exaltation Cathedral of the Saint Euphrosyne Monastery, and in the Saint Sophia Cathedral. Afterwards, worshippers will proceed in a religious procession from the Saint Sophia Cathedral to the monastery. Among the pilgrims are many groups of believers from Russian regions, Ukraine, and Latvia.
According to established tradition, the Day of Remembrance of the Saint concludes a series of events dedicated to the founding day of Polotsk. However, in the jubilee year, when Polotsk celebrates its 1150th anniversary, this day merely marks an interval in the celebrations. They will resume in November with the international scientific and practical conference "History and Archaeology of Polotsk and the Polotsk Land," which will be held at the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve. The international organ music festival "Bells of Sophia" will also take place under the sign of the anniversary. A photo exhibition "Ancient Polotsk. Modern Polotsk" will open at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris at the same time. -0-
