Vitebsk has its own anthem

27 March, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. Vitebsk has its own anthem. Today, at a session of the Vitebsk City Council of Deputies, deputies approved one of the six options submitted to the city competition, BELTA correspondent reports.

The competition winner is "Pesnya ab Vitsebsku". The author of the lyrics is Tamara Krasnova-Gusachenko, a member of the Union of Writers of Belarus, and the music was composed by local composer Alexander Rauzo. Following public discussion, this work was approved by a specially established regional commission, which included Honoured Artists of the Republic Vladimir Baidov, Galina Gorelova, and Viktor Voitika, in addition to representatives of Vitebsk's creative intelligentsia.

Natalia Shienok, Head of the Culture Department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, who presented "Pesnya ab Vitsebsku" to the city council deputies, noted that this competition entry is of a high professional standard, possesses a vivid melodic foundation, and a solemn sound. "The lyrics fragmentarily describe the city of Vitebsk, historical facts, and legendary events, emphasising the heroism of past generations, which is important for this type of work," said Natalia Shienok.

Minsk, Brest, Grodno, Borisov, Zhodino, Baranovichi, and Polotsk already have their own anthems. City anthems are traditionally played at the beginning and end of broadcasts by city television and radio stations, and at ceremonies marking important historical and socio-political events.-0-
