Half of the districts in the Vitebsk region have started harvesting corn, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee.
In the region, corn occupies 66.2 thousand hectares. As of the morning of September 12, 1.4% of the area has been harvested. Farms in half of the region's districts are carrying out the work. The yield of green mass is 240 centners per hectare.
The harvesting of grain and leguminous crops continues in the region. Approximately 94% of the area has been threshed, with 948.4 thousand tons of grain collected at an average yield of 32.3 centners per hectare. Farmers in the Gluboksky district are closest to completing the harvest, having threshed over 99% of their fields. Less than 2% remains to be harvested in the Sennensky, Vitebsky, and Orshansky districts. The highest grain yield is in the Orshansky district, at 45.5 centners per hectare.
The sowing of winter grain crops is underway in the region, with work completed on 17% of the area. Simultaneously, rapeseed harvesting is in progress (70% harvested), as is potato harvesting (tubers dug on 17% of the fields). Work continues in the flax fields, with 19% of the flax straw harvested.
