On May 13, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Participants of the "St. George's Ribbon - Roads of Memory" campaign will arrive in Vitebsk today, the Ideological Work Department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
The participants of the campaign will bring to the city on the Daugava River the St. George's Ribbon, measuring 2 m by 30 m, a symbol of the unity of generations and peoples who won the Great Patriotic War. They will visit local monuments of the Great Patriotic War and meet with veterans at the museum of the Hero of the Soviet Union M.F. Shmyrev to collect their commemorative notes. Then the participants' route lies to Orsha.
The patriotic campaign "St. George's Ribbon - Roads of Memory" in honor of the 67th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War is organized by the youth socio-cultural public association "Molodaya Rus". By May 20, the association's activists plan to visit places of military glory and major battles that influenced the course of the war. The route of the Great St. George's Ribbon runs through Minsk, Molodechno, Vileyka, Polotsk, Vitebsk, Orsha, Borisov, Slutsk, Bobruisk, Baranovichi, Brest, and cities of Russia and Ukraine. On June 22, the ribbon will be solemnly handed over to the Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Moscow.
It is symbolic that Vitebsk, which lost every third resident during the war, will welcome the participants of the campaign on the Day of the State Emblem and the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus. On the occasion of the state holiday, a ceremony will be held near the "Order of Victory" monument in the city with the participation of representatives of authorities, veterans, work collectives, public organizations, educational institutions, and an honor guard company.-0-
