On August 25, Minsk /BelTA correspondent/. A resident of Orsha attempted to bribe an employee of the Main Directorate for Combating Organised Crime and Corruption (GUBOPiK) of the Criminal Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with $8,000, the Information and Public Relations Department of the police agency informed BelTA.
A criminal case has been initiated against the 47-year-old deputy director of a private unitary enterprise under Part 2 of Article 431 "Giving a large bribe" of the Criminal Code of Belarus, which provides for up to seven years of imprisonment.
As explained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, GUBOPiK officers stopped a truck at the "Redki" toll collection point (border of Belarus and Russia). The waybills presented by the driver indicated that he was transporting fertilizer from Minsk to Tver, but in reality, the vehicle contained 20 tons of sugar worth Br92 million. It is presumed that the illegal cargo was being delivered to Moscow.
On the same day, the aforementioned deputy director of one of the companies decided to bribe an internal affairs officer in order to get the illegal cargo back, but was detained. -0-
