President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No. 36, which clarifies the provisions on the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Armed Forces. The document has been adopted to bring Decree No. 719 of 7 December 2006 into line with the Military Doctrine. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the Head of State.
In particular, the functions of the Ministry of Defence have been supplemented with provisions on the implementation of patriotic education measures within the Armed Forces, as well as on covering the activities of the Armed Forces in the media. Furthermore, the composition of the collegium of the Ministry of Defence is specified.
The functions of the General Staff have been supplemented with a provision on coordinating the activities of the military component of the state's military organisation on issues of ensuring military security and armed defence.
