The rate of juvenile delinquency in the Vitebsk region has decreased by 13.1% in January-September of the current year, reported Irina Kryukovskaya, Assistant Prosecutor of the Vitebsk Region for Supervision over the Enforcement of Legislation on Minors and Youth, to a BELTA correspondent. In total, over nine months, 358 criminal offenses were committed by minors or with their involvement in the region, which is 54 cases less compared to the same period in 2010. The share of juvenile delinquency in overall crime was 4.7%. Several positive trends have emerged in the structure of juvenile delinquency, noted Irina Kryukovskaya. For instance, the number of crimes committed by minors with a criminal record decreased by 40.9% (from 144 to 85), 15.7% fewer crimes committed by groups were registered (from 165 to 139), and the number of criminal offenses committed by minors under the influence of alcohol decreased by 10.1% (from 69 to 62). The number of particularly serious and serious crimes, as well as criminal offenses committed by unemployed and out-of-school minors, has reduced. Crimes such as extortion and rape have not been registered. Overall, there is a decrease in the number of minors involved in criminal activities. Their number has decreased by 18.9% - from 354 at the end of the nine months of last year to 287. At the same time, along with the overall positive dynamics, an increase in juvenile crimes is observed in the Gluboksky, Miorsky, Chashniksky districts, as well as in the Oktyabrsky and Pervomaisky districts of Vitebsk. "This is an alarming signal that should prompt the heads of relevant law enforcement agencies, educational institutions, and other prevention entities to intensify their activities in preventing offenses among minors," concluded Irina Kryukovskaya.-0-
