"Over the past five years, a stable trend of decreasing crime rates has been observed in the region, including particularly grave and grave socially dangerous acts, including murders and intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm," noted Alexander Chadyuk. Thus, the number of murders and attempted murders in the Vitebsk region over eight months decreased by 28.6% to 35 cases, the number of crimes related to intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm decreased by 28% to 113 cases. There were fewer thefts (a decrease of 14.2% to 5.1 thousand cases), hooliganism (by 39.3% to 99 cases, respectively), robberies (by 23.4% to 282 cases), and aggravated robberies (by 27.8% to 39 cases). A decrease in recidivist crimes and crimes committed while intoxicated is also noted. Their share in the total volume of crimes is 43.3% and 34.3%, respectively. Analysis of the causes and conditions contributing to the commission of crimes indicates that they are mainly caused by people's alcoholism, their lack of socially useful employment, and domestic disorder, added Alexander Chadyuk.
