The buckwheat harvest in the farms of the Vitebsk region has already doubled the total yield of this crop for the 2010 harvest campaign, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. According to data as of September 12, a total of 775 hectares of this crop have been harvested, which is 58% of the area to be harvested. About 1.2 thousand tons have been threshed, with an average yield of 15.3 centners per hectare, which is 1.5 times higher than the same indicator last year. Farms in six districts have completed work in the buckwheat fields, including Lepel district, which has so far produced the largest buckwheat harvest of 214 tons with a yield of 21.4 centners per hectare (the area under buckwheat was 100 hectares). In addition, all districts have completed the millet harvest, with a yield of over 1.4 thousand tons and an average yield of 14 centners per hectare. Flax straw has been harvested from an area of 11.7 thousand hectares, which is 65% of the plan, with almost 26 thousand tons of flax straw with an average grade of 1.51 being prepared in the farms. Potatoes have been harvested from almost 1.5 thousand hectares (22.1% of the plan). More than 35 thousand tons of this crop have been dug up, with an average yield of 238.2 centners per hectare. Forage corn has been mowed on almost a third of the planned harvesting areas, with a gross yield of green mass exceeding 1 million tons at an average yield of 332.8 centners per hectare. In total, farms in the region have prepared over 900 thousand tons of fodder units, or more than 71% of the target, with fodder provision per conventional head of cattle amounting to almost 20 centners of fodder units. -0-
