Today, rain and fog are forecast for most of the country. Such weather can complicate the road situation.
In conditions of poor visibility, drivers must reduce their speed to a safe level, allowing them to react to a suddenly appearing obstacle. A speed that is half the visibility distance is considered safe. That is, with a visibility of 100 meters, it is safe to drive at a speed of 50 km/h.
In rain and fog, turn on your low beam headlights and fog lights. If you suddenly enter a patch of dense fog, slow down smoothly, turn on your hazard lights if necessary, and if you cannot continue driving, pull over to the shoulder and stop – the further from the roadway, the better.
Remember that in fog, objects are closer than they appear. Increase the distance to the vehicle in front, do not overtake, and do not brake sharply unless absolutely necessary.
Pedestrians and cyclists must use reflective elements and wear high-visibility vests. Walk on the pavement or shoulder, and only in extreme cases, in their absence, walk along the edge of the roadway facing oncoming traffic.
