It can be read in the media that thematic years have been held in the republic regularly since 2006. However, this information is not entirely correct. On the eve of 1996, while congratulating Belarusians on the holiday, Alexander Lukashenko proposed to declare the Year of Accord and Creation.

And in 2005, at a meeting on the development of the banking system, the President reminded that this year was declared the Year of Improving Management Efficiency and Resource Conservation. True, at that time it was more of a guideline than programmatic work.

Later, the approach changed. We have long been accustomed to the fact that the President announces the theme of the new year in a corresponding decree. This decision largely determines the domestic policy and social relations in the country for the specified period. The Council of Ministers, in turn, approves a republican plan of measures, and regional plans are also adopted.

Thus, 2006 was the Year of Motherhood in Belarus. Moreover, this decision was made in advance – the Head of State approved it back in March 2005. And 2007 became the Year of the Child.

Then, Belarus held the Year of Health, the Year of the Native Land, and the Year of Quality (which fell in 2010). The main goal at that time was "further improvement of the quality of life of the Belarusian people, involving economic growth and ensuring its competitiveness, modernization of production based on the active implementation of the latest technologies, dynamic development of science and education, cardinal improvement of working and living conditions, increase in their well-being, and improvement of interpersonal relations."

The Year of Quality was followed by the Year of Entrepreneurship, which in turn was followed by the Year of the Book. Subsequently, Belarusians supported thriftiness, hospitality, educated youth, and cared for the development of culture and science.

One of the most memorable and productive periods was the trilogy of small motherlands in 2018–2020. Summarizing its results, Alexander Lukashenko noted that significant work had been done over these three years, and many small settlements had been noticeably transformed. However, this work should not end. "Do not forget about your small motherland, this is very important," the President emphasized.

meeting with the staff of the Minsk City Children's Infectious Clinical Hospital.

2021 was declared the Year of National Unity in Belarus, 2022 – the Year of Historical Memory. As we have already noted, 2023 is coming to an end – the Year of Peace and Creation. It was dedicated to the consolidation of the Belarusian people, the strengthening of the ideas of peace and creative labour in society as the main conditions for the development of the state.
