According to a sample survey of households on living standards, at the beginning of the current year, 51.1% of young men and 45.9% of young women aged 16-29 in Belarus were engaged in physical culture and sports, BELTA was informed by the National Statistical Committee.

The most important aspect of physical culture and sports, according to 43.3% of young people, is the opportunity to improve health. Almost half of women (47.2%) and about a third (32.4%) of men in this age group note the positive role of sports activities in maintaining physical fitness.

Daily sports activities are dedicated by 6.8% of young men and women involved, and 4-6 times a week by 10.9%.

As previously reported, in Belarus, youth are people aged from 14 to 31 years. Almost every fifth resident of the republic belongs to this category. As of January 1 of the current year, 1,992.5 thousand people of this age lived in the country. The largest group among the youth is aged 25-30 years (their number at the beginning of the current year was 897.4 thousand people, or 45% of the total youth population). Aged 20-24 years - 553.6 thousand people (27.8%), 18-19 years - 180.3 thousand people (9.1%), 14-17 years - 361.1 thousand people (18.1%).

Youth Day in Belarus is celebrated on the last Sunday of June.
