The official date for the discovery of "black gold" reserves in Belarus is considered to be 1964, when the first industrial oil inflows were obtained, first in August and then in October. The discovered field was named Rechitskoye.
In 1975, the maximum extraction for the entire period of operation of Belarusian fields was recorded: it amounted to 7 million 953 thousand tonnes of oil. Thus, Belarus became one of the major oil regions of the Soviet Union, but it did not remain in this status for long. The pace set at the beginning of development undermined the capacity of Belarusian fields, and the subsequent decline in production became a period of trials for the Belorusneft team.
During this challenging period, it was necessary to reorganise operations to maintain hydrocarbon production at the planned level, preventing its rapid decline. The organisation of rational and efficient field development allowed for the stabilisation of hydrocarbon production in the region.
In the last three years, the annual oil production volume has been 1 million 645 thousand tonnes. Technical re-equipment and the implementation of advanced technologies, similar to those used by leading global service companies such as Schell, Schlumberger, and Halliburton, play an important role in the measures to stabilise production.
Multilateral and horizontal well drilling, hydraulic fracturing, and water shut-off of formations using new reagents and methods are applied at the fields.
By the beginning of the current year, 81 oil and gas condensate fields had been discovered in Belarus. Currently, the Belorusneft company is engaged in oil and gas production at 61 fields. The total number of wells is almost a thousand units, including 801 production wells.
The honourable right to receive the anniversary tonne of oil was entrusted to the best team of oil and gas production operators of the association – the team led by master Dmitry Marukhniy.
