A decree on measures to curb parasitism is being prepared in Belarus

June 25, Minsk /BELTA/. The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has submitted a draft decree to the government providing for measures to curb dependency. This was announced today at a roundtable meeting in the House of Representatives by Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection Alexander Rumak, in response to deputies' questions, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

Alexander Rumak explained that the draft decree envisages providing targeted social assistance subject to specific employment commitments. "That is, when a person applies for targeted social assistance, they will be issued a recommendation that they must find employment within a specified period. The duration of this assistance will also be established," said the Deputy Minister.

"If a person applies for social assistance again, the decision will be made taking into account whether they have taken steps to solve their problems independently. If not, the state will not provide assistance," added Alexander Rumak.

The roundtable, dedicated to the implementation mechanism of the law on social services, was attended by heads of committees for labour, employment and social protection, territorial centres for social services for the population, boarding schools, as well as the Belarusian Red Cross Society. Participants reviewed the mechanism for providing new types of social services using specific examples of the work of organisations within the social protection system. The event was organised by the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on Labour and Social Affairs.-0-
