3 October, Minsk /BELTA correspondent/. A storm warning has been issued for most of Belarus today, the Republican Hydrometeorological Centre informed a BELTA correspondent. According to meteorologists, due to the movement of active atmospheric fronts, thunderstorms are expected across the southern half of the country until 5 p.m. today. In Minsk, a thunderstorm is forecast between approximately 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. In connection with the adverse weather, the Ministry of Emergency Situations urges not to treat thunderstorms lightly and not to be overconfident in the face of the elements. The recommendations to close windows, not to use electrical appliances, and not to seek shelter under trees or power lines outdoors remain relevant. Motorists should not refuel their vehicles during a thunderstorm, and it is better to wait out the bad weather inside the car. Even a downpour can be dangerous. With a rainfall intensity of 1.5-2 mm per minute, it becomes difficult for a person to breathe, even when under shelter. Moreover, the incoming water does not have time to be absorbed into the ground. Visibility decreases, and traffic movement becomes difficult. In addition, the elements can damage power line supports and disable electrical substations. It is extremely dangerous to descend into basements and underground premises during heavy downpours. They can be flooded with surging water within minutes. It is dangerous to descend into underground passages. Do not try to take shelter near ravines – such weather often leads to landslides.-0-
