The winners were determined based on the results of work for 2012. The main criteria for evaluating creative projects were their artistic value and social significance. A total of about 1,000 applications were submitted for participation in the competition. The award laureates were presented with special prizes, diplomas, and cash prizes. The National Music Award statuette, designed by sculptor Andrey Khotyanovsky, organically combines musical symbolism, a star as a symbol of pop music, and Belarusian ornaments.
