In Belarus, spheres of possible use of Hi-Tech Park developments in economic sectors will be determined - Krutoy

Belarus will identify areas for potential application of Hi-Tech Park (HTP) developments in economic sectors. This was announced to a BELTA correspondent by First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Krutoy.

"At today's meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister noted that many economic sectors have huge growth potential through accelerated digitalisation. It has been decided to work in the near future on specific sectors, especially the service sector (medical, transport, tourism) and the real economy sector (industry, agriculture), to propose areas where Hi-Tech Park developments can be used," said Dmitry Krutoy.

The First Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that enterprises in all economic sectors should be more active in this direction, especially considering the high results of the HTP, including for 2019. "The growth rate of added value is 109.3%. This is the highest level among all sectors of the Belarusian economy. For example, for Minsk, the HTP's share in its gross regional product is already 17%. Record growth rates of foreign currency earnings have once again been achieved. 90% of developments are exported to Western countries and the USA," he noted.

"We talk a lot about 'digital' being our new oil, which can compensate for various manoeuvres, but the passivity of our government bodies, which do not utilise such potential, is crossing all boundaries. It is also regrettable that advanced Hi-Tech Park (HTP) developments, such as precision farming technology or environmental monitoring, are not being applied by Belarusian enterprises and are simultaneously being used by our neighbours. The question arises: why is this happening?" - emphasised Dmitry Krutoy.

The utilisation of HTP residents' achievements in various sectors of the Belarusian economy was previously discussed at the final meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Communications and Informatisation. Dmitry Krutoy stressed that industries need to more actively leverage the existing potential in the IT sector.
