Belarus is currently experiencing a moderate level of ARI activity with a slight increase in influenza A and B activity, which is typical for this period of the influenza epidemic season, BelTA was informed by the Ministry of Health.

The etiological structure of acute respiratory infections is represented by non-influenza viral agents: adenoviruses, rhinoviruses, respiratory syncytial viruses, parainfluenza, metapneumoviruses, the department clarified.

The epidemiological situation regarding ARI morbidity is under constant control of the Ministry of Health. However, much depends on each person's attitude towards their own health and those around them. Maintaining health, especially during changing weather conditions, can be aided by observing elementary preventive measures. "Systematically ventilate your apartment and workplace. Spend more time outdoors (walking with proper breathing regulation enhances lung ventilation, improves the circulatory system, and hardens the body). Food should be rich in vitamins A, B1, C, as well as essential nutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, trace elements). The diet should include vegetables, fruits, fish and dairy dishes. Avoid close contact with people who appear unwell. Avoid crowded places or reduce your time spent in them. Try not to touch your mouth and nose. Practice hand hygiene: wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Wear protective masks when in contact with a sick person," advise medical professionals.

As in the past year, the ministry hopes to avoid a flu epidemic, as approximately 42% of the population has been vaccinated in the country.

At the same time, high activity of influenza viruses is observed in the Northern Hemisphere, driven by the dominant A(H3N2). In North America, the season began with fairly high influenza activity in most countries. The A(H3N2) virus prevails. Influenza activity in the USA has reached peak levels. In East Asian countries, morbidity is beginning to decline, with the A(H3N2) virus predominating. In Central Asia, a low level of influenza activity persists. In West Asian countries (Bahrain, Islamic Republic of Iran), A(H1N1)pdm09 is mainly being tested. In North and West African countries, influenza activity has reached peak levels, driven by influenza B virus, while in Egypt, A(H3N2) is mainly being tested.

In Europe, influenza activity is still increasing. The highest activity is recorded in the northwestern part of the continent. A(H3N2) dominates. Most Central and Western European countries have reported low influenza activity, and nine countries show an upward trend, indicating the development of the process. Seven countries (Albania, Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, and Switzerland) report high influenza activity with wide geographical spread and an increasing or stable trend.
