October 10, Minsk /BELTA/. Additional measures to adapt to climate change need to be developed in Belarus. This was stated today at a seminar of the EU Clima East project by Vitaly Kulik, First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"A global assessment of perennial meteorological observations, as well as the latest research, shows a close link between climate change and negative processes on the planet, such as an increase in the frequency of extreme weather events," said Vitaly Kulik.
According to available data, in Belarus, climate warming has led to noticeable changes, primarily in the southern regions. This is manifested in an increase in the number of extremely high and low temperatures, precipitation, forest fires, and other negative phenomena.
This situation has a negative impact on the country's economy, as well as on people's health. "Therefore, to achieve economic and environmental stability, it is necessary to continue pursuing a balanced state policy, as well as to develop additional measures for adaptation to climate change. In addition, the low-carbon development strategy should be improved," emphasized Vitaly Kulik.-0-
