Following the nomination of candidates for deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, there are no constituencies in Belarus where elections could be held on an uncontested basis. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Secretary of the Central Commission of Belarus for Elections and National Referendums, Nikolai Lozovik. On average across the country, the competition among potential candidates for deputies is 4-5 people per electoral district, said Nikolai Lozovik. He did not rule out that uncontested constituencies might appear in the country after the registration procedure for nominees is completed. Currently, there are 2 potential contenders for a seat in the Belarusian parliament registered in 11 constituencies, three in 20, four in 35, and five in 17. In 12 constituencies, six people wish to become deputies, and in 10 constituencies, seven people. There are eight potential candidates for a deputy seat in three constituencies. In addition, there is one constituency each in Belarus where 10 and 11 people intend to run. "The number of nominated candidates is naturally higher in large cities and lower in rural areas," clarified the Secretary of the Central Election Commission. He also provided statistics on nominations by region. Thus, in the Brest region, 68 candidates have been nominated for 16 constituencies; in the Vitebsk region, 61 candidates for 14 constituencies; in the Gomel region, 68 candidates for 17 constituencies; in the Grodno region, with 13 constituencies, documents have been submitted to the constituency commissions from 42 candidates. In the Minsk region, 67 candidates are registered for 17 constituencies, and in the Mogilev region, 56 candidates for 13 constituencies. In the capital, 132 candidates are registered for 20 constituencies. The nomination of candidates concluded on August 13; from August 14 to August 23, constituency election commissions will conduct their registration. Election Day is scheduled for September 23, 2012.
