On April 11, the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, signed Decree No. 137 "On Improving Pension Provision". This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the Belarusian leader.
The document is aimed at improving pension provision in changing socio-demographic conditions. The decree provides for a phased annual increase of 6 months in the generally established retirement age from January 1, 2017, until men reach 63 years of age and women reach 58 years of age; a similar increase (by 3 years over 6 years) in the age entitling to preferential labour pensions and service pensions; and a gradual increase in the maximum age for military service for military personnel, commensurate with the general civil service.
In accordance with the decree, it is recommended that heads of organisations (regardless of ownership) widely apply the practice of employers and employees participating in voluntary additional pension insurance programmes.
