The most numerous among practicing physicians in 2016 were specialists in therapeutic (17.8 thousand), surgical (12.6 thousand), and pediatric (4.1 thousand) fields. The rarest specialists last year were audiologists (1 person) and phoniatrists (6 people).
Last year, the indicator of the population's provision with practicing physicians was 44 per 10 thousand population. Medical care was provided to the population by 636 hospital organisations, 2311 outpatient clinics, and 144 emergency (urgent) medical care stations.
Specialists in the field of "Healthcare" are trained by 5 higher education institutions and 16 secondary vocational education institutions. In 2016, they graduated 3.3 thousand specialists with secondary vocational education and 3.9 thousand with higher education.
Traditionally, Medical Workers' Day is celebrated in the republic on the third Sunday of June.
