In connection with the start of the academic year in Belarus, from August 25 to September 5, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will conduct a special comprehensive event "Attention - Children!". This was announced to journalists by Sergey Pivovarov, Senior Inspector for Special Assignments of the Main Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as reported by BELTA.
He explained that the preventive campaign is designed to increase the level of responsibility of parents and drivers, and to draw public attention to the issue of ensuring children's safety. To this end, during the special event, vehicles will be required to operate with their low beam headlights or daytime running lights switched on during daylight hours.
He also added that a series of preventive measures for children and adolescents are planned. Special attention will be focused on conducting awareness-raising activities with adults. "On the eve of the academic year, police officers will visit work collectives, explain the causes and consequences of road traffic accidents involving children, and remind them of the rules for the safe transportation of minors and the responsibility for their violation," noted Sergey Pivovarov.
Another campaign preceding the new academic year will be the Unified Road Safety Day under the slogan "Towards a New Academic Year – Safe Roads for All!". "It will take place on August 30. During the preventive measures, special attention will be paid to raising public awareness of the problem of child injuries and fatalities on the roads," noted the senior inspector.
The measures will continue with police officers participating in opening ceremonies and conducting class hours with students during the first week of the academic year. "To prevent traffic violations and provide assistance near schools and in areas with high pedestrian and child traffic, police patrols will be organized," said Sergey Pivovarov.
