In Belarus, laws on the activities of religious organizations have been amended, and they are subject to re-registration.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has signed a law amending legislation on the activities of religious organizations. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the Head of State.

The document enshrines modern approaches in the relationship between the state and religious organizations. In particular, it provides for increased requirements for the establishment of a republican religious association: the presence of religious communities within its structure, operating in all regions and in Minsk.

The number of religious communities required to establish a republican association has also been increased. At the same time, at least one of them must have been operating for at least 30 years.

The law provides for the possibility for religious organizations to establish structures for providing social services to the elderly, disabled, social rehabilitation of persons dependent on psychoactive substances, as well as orphanages at monasteries, in agreement with the regional (Minsk City) executive committee.

Within a year after the law comes into force, religious organizations must undergo re-registration.
