Throughout the month, events aimed at addressing the social problems of the population will be held in every region of the republic, and charity events will take place. Support is planned for lonely and elderly people, including participants of the Great Patriotic War. Special attention will be paid to promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The month will be launched on May 8, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, in Minsk during a solemn ceremony of laying flowers at the bust of the founder of the Red Cross, Henri Dunant.

This holiday was established in honor of the Swiss humanist Jean Henri Dunant (born May 8, 1828). In 1859, Dunant witnessed one of the most brutal and bloody battles of the 19th century - the Battle of Solferino, where about 40,000 people were killed and wounded. Henri Dunant decided to do everything possible to alleviate human suffering in the future. At his initiative, the first voluntary associations for providing battlefield assistance began to form in the mid-19th century. In 1864, the first conference of the International Committee of the Red Cross was held in Geneva, laying the foundation for the future movement. The main tasks of the Red Cross Committee are to provide protection and assistance to victims of armed conflicts and to disseminate the principles of humanitarian law.

In 1919, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies was founded. The results of World War I showed that a supranational interaction tool was needed for closer cooperation between national societies. Currently, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies cares for victims of natural and man-made disasters and unites 189 national societies.
