A special comprehensive event "Bezopasnost" (Safety) will be held in Belarus from December 8 to 12, BELTA was informed by the Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate.

Traffic police inspectors, together with railway transport police officers, will be on duty at railway crossings to identify drivers of motor vehicles who violate traffic rules. The main objectives of this event are to prevent deaths and injuries of people on the railway and road traffic accidents at railway crossings.

The State Automobile Inspectorate noted that the causes of accidents at railway crossings are often due to drivers of motor vehicles not knowing or not observing traffic rules. Cases of brake system malfunction, drivers being in a state of alcoholic intoxication, lack of driving experience, as well as drivers' fear and confusion when stopping a vehicle at a crossing when an approaching locomotive is visible, are not uncommon.

The fine for violating the rules for crossing railway crossings ranges from 2 to 4 basic units (a basic unit is Br180 thousand), the State Automobile Inspectorate reminded.
