24 October, Minsk /Elena Prus - BELTA/. 665 residents of Belarus have passed the 100-year milestone, Svetlana Ermakovich, Head of the Department for Veterans and Elderly People of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, told a BELTA correspondent. Among the regions of the republic, the traditional leader in the number of centenarians is the Grodno region: as of October 1, there were 156 people aged over 100 years old here. In second place in this gerontological ranking is still the Minsk region (112), and in third place is the Brest region (98). In the Gomel region, there are 82 people who have already celebrated their centenary, in the Vitebsk region - 80, in the Mogilev region - 70. And the capital is in last place: despite having the largest population, Minsk has the fewest residents aged 100 years and older (only 67). Women traditionally predominate among Belarusian centenarians. Thus, 566 women and 99 men have crossed the 100-year mark. And in the age group over 110 years old, there are only women (16 of them), among whom two have passed the 115-year milestone. -0-
