In Belarus, life expectancy has increased by 5.1 years over the last 10 years (3.8 years for women, 5.7 years for men), the National Statistical Committee informed BELTA.
One of the most important indicators of the population's quality of life is life expectancy. In 2015, this figure in Belarus was 73.9 years, including 78.9 years for women and 68.6 years for men.
Age is not an obstacle to starting a family, the National Statistical Committee noted. In 2015, 1,091 women and 1,705 men entered into marriage in older age, with both partners being 60 years or older in 855 cases.
Every year on October 1, the International Day of Older Persons is celebrated. This decision was made by the UN General Assembly in December 1990 to draw the world community's attention to the problems and needs of older people, to maintain their sense of usefulness to society, and to increase public awareness of the demographic ageing of society.
