"Around 300 illegal firearms and about 11,800 rounds of ammunition were voluntarily surrendered. Over 1,300 registered firearms were seized from individual owners for various violations," the Interior Ministry stated.
From October 4 to 9, law enforcement officers will conduct a set of measures to prevent and suppress offences related to the circulation of weapons and ammunition, codenamed "Arsenal". Police officers will check the storage conditions of registered firearms by citizens and identify owners of illegal arsenals.
The main objective of the measures is preventive work with firearms owners regarding compliance with the rules for their use and storage, safety precautions, as well as informing the public about the voluntary surrender of illegally held firearms.
The Interior Ministry reminds that individuals who voluntarily surrender illegally held firearms and ammunition to law enforcement agencies are exempt from criminal and administrative liability.
