Mobile operator velcom is launching the first narrowband network for the "Internet of Things" in Belarus for the TIBO-2017 exhibition, the company's press service informed BELTA.

The new network is based on the advanced NB IoT (Narrow Band Internet of Things) technology, which has not been used in Belarus before. The NB IoT network operates in the 900 MHz band, occupying a narrow frequency band of 200 kHz. Due to the algorithms used in the standard, the technology will ensure a high degree of signal penetration and increased stability even in hard-to-reach places: in basements, low-lying areas, behind thick walls, ceilings, etc.

In the near future, the "Internet of Things" network will undergo testing, after which it is planned to be launched into commercial operation.

The narrowband "Internet of Things" will provide subscribers with a wide range of opportunities. For example, the network can be used to monitor the quality, composition, and water level in reservoirs in real-time, check the availability of parking spaces, etc. It will also be possible to remotely manage electricity and gas consumption, track service vehicles, and control elements of urban infrastructure - streetlights, fountains, etc.
