On July 25, Minsk / Svetlana Savko - BELTA /. Electoral commissions of Belarus have registered 330 initiative groups for collecting voters' signatures to nominate candidates for deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the fifth convocation. This was announced today by the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, Lidiya Yermoshina, during a meeting with the Chairperson of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the CIS, Sergey Lebedev, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. Lidiya Yermoshina noted that out of the potential candidates for deputies who registered their initiative groups, 66 declared affiliation with a particular political party. The greatest activity was shown by three opposition parties, said the Chairperson of the CEC, without specifying which ones. The Communist Party of Belarus and the Republican Party of Labour and Justice, among others, nominated their candidates. The head of the CEC added that these were few nominations, and the main stage is yet to come. The nomination of candidates for deputies will last until August 15. Characterizing the course of the parliamentary election campaign, Lidiya Yermoshina drew attention to cases of provocations by opposition forces, in particular, attempts to register initiative groups of persons who do not have the right to vote. The head of the CEC pointed out that the nomination in a large number of electoral districts has never been carried out so massively. "There is a very big difference between the number of applications and the number of registered initiative groups. District commissions refused to register 85 initiative groups, in fact, it is only about 15 individuals, meaning a huge number of initiative groups for the same person," explained Lidiya Yermoshina. The meeting between the Chairperson of the CEC of Belarus and the Chairperson of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the CIS was dedicated to issues related to the opening and organization of the work of the CIS observer mission for the parliamentary elections, which will be headed by Sergey Lebedev. Lidiya Yermoshina presented him with observer certificate No. 1. Another 12 certificates were handed over for the other members of the mission. The head of the CEC emphasized that observers from the CIS are perceived by the Central Election Commission of Belarus as assistants, benevolent critics who help to improve the electoral process in the country.
