Sowing of early spring crops is nearing completion in Belarus, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food told BelTA.

As of May 2, sowing of early spring grain and leguminous crops (excluding maize, buckwheat, and millet) has been carried out on an area of 634.6 thousand hectares, or 98.1% of the plan. In the Vitebsk region, sowing has been completed on 96% of the planned areas, in the Gomel region - 97.2%, in the Mogilev region - 91.7%. In the Brest, Grodno, and Minsk regions, sowing has already been completed.

Sowing of buckwheat has been completed on an area of 0.91 thousand hectares, or 2.64% of the plan, millet - 0.29 thousand hectares (2.87%), spring rapeseed - 33.4 thousand hectares (71.5%), flax - 40 thousand hectares (85.3%), sugar beet - 94.3 thousand hectares (92.7%), vegetable crops - 2.04 thousand hectares (42.5%), maize in total - 270.2 thousand hectares (23.4%), including for grain - 152.9 thousand hectares (56.9%), for silage - 117.2 thousand hectares (13.3%). Potatoes have been planted on 7.20 thousand hectares (27.6%).

This year, it is planned to sow early spring grain and leguminous crops on an area of 650.4 thousand hectares, maize for grain - on 265.3 thousand hectares, potatoes - on 26.1 thousand hectares, sugar beet - on 101.7 thousand hectares. Agricultural organizations and peasant (farmer) farms must ensure grain production in the volume of 8.877 million tons.
